What "AI-powered" actually means for a small business

Cutting through the hype: the three places AI is genuinely worth adding to a business app right now, and the places it isn't.

What "AI-powered" actually means for a small business

"AI-powered" is on every pitch deck, and most of the time it means a chatbot nobody uses. That's a waste of your money. Here's where it actually earns its place.

Search that understands intent. Instead of your customers guessing the exact product name, they type what they want in plain language and get the right result. This is a small change with an outsized effect on sales.

Document and image understanding. Snap a photo of an invoice, a receipt, or a delivery note and have the app pull out the line items automatically. For businesses drowning in paperwork, this removes hours of manual entry a week.

Drafting, not deciding. AI is good at producing a first draft — a product description, a customer reply, a summary of a long thread. It should hand that draft to a person, not send it. We build the human checkpoint in by default.

Where we push back: anything where a wrong answer costs real money and there's no human in the loop. Pricing, approvals, anything irreversible. The technology isn't reliable enough for that yet, and pretending otherwise is how projects go sideways.
